The municipal government through the Delegation of Tree, Parks, and Gardens has completed new safety floor renovation actions in four playgrounds in the city in the past two weeks: Plaza del Pumarejo, Plaza de la Alfalfa, Calle Maestras, and Plaza Manuel Vallejo. These interventions bring the total number to 112 renovated playgrounds in the first two years of Mayor José Luis Sanz’s term, representing more than 30% of the total in the city.
These works are part of the specific safety floor replacement contract that complements the regular maintenance contract, allowing interventions in fifty playgrounds in all districts over the last six months, with an investment of €404,678.44.
The Delegate of Tree, Parks, and Gardens highlighted that «we continue to modernize playgrounds so that families can enjoy them throughout the year in optimal conditions. With these actions, we not only improve safety but also accessibility, sustainability, and the appeal of these spaces, which are crucial for child development.»
The tasks involved the removal of deteriorated pavements such as hardened rubber or damaged artificial grass, and the installation of a two-layer system with a cushioning base and a top layer of high-quality artificial grass finished with silica sand. Additionally, areas without elevated games have been equipped with traditional game surfaces that promote free play and children’s creativity.
For the past three months, with the specific safety floor replacement contract, the following playgrounds have had their floors renovated:
- Macarena District: Filiberto Mira, José Díaz, Plaza Pío XII.
- Nervión District: Eduardo Dato (next to Sevilla FC), Santa Joaquina de Vedruna.
- San Pablo–Santa Justa District: Plaza Mamá Margarita.
- Cerro–Amate District: Plaza de las Moradas, Diego Gálvez, Parque Hacienda de San Antonio.
- Este–Alcosa–Torreblanca District: Plaza de los Amoríos, Campo de la Verdad.
- South District: Antigua Cross Pirotecnia, Alcalde Juan Fernández, Plaza Doctora Álvarez Silván.
- Bellavista–La Palmera District: Paseo de Europa C/ Bélgica and C/ Colonia.

- Old Town District: Alameda de Hércules.
- North: Calle Maestras.
- San Pablo–Santa Justa District: Plaza Manuel Vallejo.
- Old Town: Plaza de la Alfalfa, Plaza del Pumarejo.
In the coming weeks, renovation works will continue in the remaining playgrounds covered by the current contract. The playgrounds yet to be renovated are:
- Nervión: Jardines de la Buhaira.
- San Pablo–Santa Justa: Plaza Bordas Chinchurreta.
- Este–Alcosa–Torreblanca: Calle Japón (Sector 12).
- Bellavista–La Palmera: C/ Guadamanil (Plaza Farmacéutica Murillo).
- Triana: Calle Graham Bell.
- Los Remedios: Parque de los Príncipes.
These actions are in addition to the 19 safety floor changes carried out through the playground maintenance contract. With these and the six planned interventions in the coming weeks, a total of 50 playgrounds in all districts have had their flooring renewed since January, incorporating more durable, accessible, and climate-adapted surfaces. In this vein, the renewal of new locations is already being considered throughout the rest of the year.
These interventions reinforce the municipal commitment to quality, safe, accessible public spaces suitable for children’s well-being.
