The President of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has expressed regret at the strategy of trying to muddy the parliamentary debate and has urged everyone to work for Andalusia and keep it out of the mud.
Moreno, who left the Plenary Hall of the Andalusian Parliament minutes before the end of the control session after successive calls to order by the Chamber’s President, Jesús Aguirre, to members of the main opposition group, emphasized that the Andalusian Government is fully committed to the interests of Andalusians, working to improve infrastructure, public services, employment, and economic and social progress.
Proof of this is the investments made in port infrastructure, roads, subways, and trams which, since 2019, have exceeded 2,000 million euros, representing an average annual investment of 310 million.
This is complemented by important projects that are underway such as the extension of subways with an investment of over 700 million, examples of which are the extension works to the new hospital in Malaga, the expansion of the Granada Metro, or the works on Stretches 1, 2, and 3 of Line 3 North and the drafting of the project for Line 3 South and the study of Line 2 of the Seville Metro, among others.
In another vein, he announced that in July, alongside the hirings for the Summer Plan, there will be a long-term hiring offer for 500 resident internal doctors.
The Andalusian President responds to questions from opposition groups in Parliament.
During his speech, he indicated that these resident doctors will be incorporated into new long-term needs as happened last year and that, unlike then, a good portion of them, like Family Doctors, will finish their training in July this year instead of September and can be hired in the Summer Plan that provides the necessary resources to Andalusian health centers and hospitals for their proper functioning.
«The main problem our public system faces is the lack of healthcare professionals, a problem that affects the whole of Spain,» he added.
In this sense, he stressed that defending the interests of Andalusians also means improving public services and highlighted the unprecedented effort made by increasing social spending by almost 9.500 million since 2018, which represents a 44% increase compared to seven years ago, with a 55% increase in healthcare, 45% in education, and 94% in dependency.
The Andalusian President reiterated the support of the Andalusian Government for education and public universities in Andalusia, which will receive the highest funding in their history this year following the agreement reached last April.
He asserted that 93% of the degrees offered in the Andalusian community are from public universities compared to the 7% offered by private ones, and that 95.7% of master’s degrees are public.
Regarding the new degrees, he added that the Agency for Scientific and University Quality is independent, the Junta does not intervene in its decisions, and the evaluators are independent and from outside this community, ensuring that the degrees are recognized throughout Europe.
Juanma Moreno, during his speech in Parliament.
«It is they who have understood that the proposals from Granada and Jaén had some deficiencies. Universities can appeal to a Claims Commission that is being constituted today. If the appeal is positive, I assure you that the Junta will have everything ready to implement the degrees in September if the universities so wish,» he added.
To conclude, he referred to the financing system and lamented that Andalusia is underfunded by 1.500 million euros each year compared to the rest of the autonomous communities due to the current system of autonomous financing, so he once again called for a fair and equitable model that does not give privileges to some over others. «I demand what this land and the Andalusians deserve».
