The President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, has highlighted the role of trade unions in the advancement and progress of Andalusia, while also stating that social dialogue is a cornerstone from which to address some of the key issues in Andalusia, something that has been a commitment of this Government from the outset and an express mandate of the Andalusian Autonomy Statute of 2007.
Moreno, who attended the opening of the UGT Andalusia Congress in Granada, stated that this union, with its General Secretary, Óskar Martínez, at the helm, has been a key player in many negotiations. «When days are spent negotiating at a table for the benefit of the people of Andalusia, and when a conducive climate is created through institutional loyalty and dialogue, a sense of mutual respect, the foundation of the society we want to build, is better understood,» he added.
He noted that any modern society, any society that wants to progress and advance, needs social dialogue as a powerful tool, and recalled that in the past six years, three major agreements have been reached, including the Economic and Social Reactivation in July 2020, the Extraordinary Measures in March 2021, and the Social and Economic Pact for the Promotion of Andalusia in March 2023.
He emphasized that this pact is alive and has led to initiatives such as a Youth Employment Plan with nearly 500 million euros, benefiting over 31,000 individuals, a New Strategy for Safety and Health at Work, and the Law on Institutional Participation of the most representative trade union and business organizations in Andalusia.
The President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, greets the General Secretary of UGT-Andalusia, Óskar Martín.
Moreno stressed that we are living in complex and challenging times where we must face pressures and temptations, so he advocated for defending the space of freedom that is the European Union, whose key, he said, «is democracy and where significant progress is being made in various areas.»
In conclusion, he called for social unity in the face of uncertainty to defend basic values, dialogue, and respect for those who think or feel differently from us, as well as respect to build a more inclusive and positive society.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo; the Rector of the University of Granada, Pedro Mercado; the President of the CEA, Javier González de Lara, and the Secretary of CCOO Andalusia, Nuria López, among others.
