The Sevilla City Council, through the Urban Planning and Environment Management, will completely transform and reorganize the currently existing open space between Coullaut Valera, Almirante Topete, and Avenida Cardenal Bueno Monreal streets in the Sur District.
To encourage the use of this space by the residents of Tiro de Línea, the council will pave the area, plant shade trees, create new parking spaces, and establish a new road to improve circulation in the area. Additionally, they will enhance the installation of public lighting in this new space. The comprehensive improvement of this space will also include the installation of benches, small marble columns, and trash bins.
Regarding this important urban intervention, the Mayor of Sevilla, José Luis Sanz, stated, «From this Government team, we continue to transform the neighborhoods of the city to make life more pleasant for residents and offer them new recreational and parking areas.» The Mayor emphasized that «the aim of these works is to create an accessible, friendly, and safe space for users and visitors while enhancing the landscape quality of the city of Sevilla.»
This 2034 m² area located within a block of buildings with very limited and specific access points is currently a terrain of albero with serious depressions, used for indiscriminate vehicle parking, and with sidewalks that do not meet the accessibility standards. This intervention will completely transform its image, organize its uses, and enhance its status as a garden area.
To allow for comfortable vehicle circulation, the council proposes creating a new road from the extension of Hermanos Arcas street. This new street will have a 4.27-meter roadway, a 4.50-meter parking bay, and a paved pedestrian space of variable dimensions.
This intervention is made possible thanks to the agreement of the October 2024 Plenary session where 7.2 million euros from the 2007 and 2009 investment annexes are allocated to various projects in the city. Among them are six actions proposed by the Vox municipal group, approved by the Plenary, such as this transformation and reorganization of the open space between Coullaut Valera, Almirante Topete, and Avenida Cardenal Bueno Monreal. The Management has already tendered this project with an investment of 300,600 €, which will be completed within five months once the works begin.
New trees for shade
The remaining triangular surface will be paved with accessible and comfortable flooring, and two new rows of shade trees will be planted, with root barriers to protect the sidewalk and road from their growth. Specific sustainable urban drainage systems will also be incorporated for water filtration.
In addition to the trees planned for this point where the road is projected to be opened, a new planting of seven Gleditsia Triacantos Skyline and a Citrus Aurantium specimen on Compositor Gerónimo Giménez street will be added.
The planned intervention also includes the removal of all existing architectural barriers and compliance with the accessibility conditions required at intersections.
Seven new lighting columns
Another aspect being reinforced is the installation of public lighting, currently very deficient; there are only five light points in the area of this project, specifically five wall lamps on the buildings of Almirante Topete street, while the rest of the intervention area lacks lighting. To address this, five columns with LED lamps and two columns with projectors will be installed at the two new pedestrian crossings that will be created.
With the same objective, specific systems of sustainable urban drainage will be incorporated, allowing for the filtering of water.
In addition to the trees planned in this area where the road is projected to be opened, a new planting of seven Gleditsia Triacantos Skyline and a Citrus Aurantium specimen will be added on Compositor Gerónimo Giménez street.
The planned intervention also includes the removal of all existing architectural barriers and compliance with the accessibility conditions required at intersections.
