The Seville City Council has approved, in the government meeting held on May 30, the implementation of a novel technical support service to increase safety and improve the control and quality of works in schools and municipal buildings.
In this regard, the Delegate for Education and Municipal Buildings, Blanca Gastalver, emphasized that this new two-year contract includes «both scheduled tasks with minimum operations and indicated frequencies; as well as punctual intermittent tasks aimed at increasing security in buildings with specialized technical services, equipped with instrumental resources, agility, reaction capacity, experience, technical knowledge, and territorial implementation, in line with the urgency and effectiveness needs in the actions that situations demand.»
Therefore, this contract, with an estimated amount of €875,561 over two years for municipal buildings, will have a budget of over €400,000 for public schools and includes architecture services and related services, engineering, testing, analysis, and technical consultancy.
This instrumental diagnostic service, testing, and quality control for Public Schools and Municipal Buildings in Seville, «aims to provide a quick, agile, objective, and effective response to incidents or accidents that have already occurred, to protect the integrity of children, users, and passersby, through the intervention of expert technical services, which must also have instrumental resources and the agility, experience, and technical knowledge necessary in these urgent situations,» Gastalver noted.
Furthermore, Gastalver pointed out that «current demands for durability, safety, and quality in educational and high-traffic spaces require a constant modernization of buildings. This implies the adoption of new technologies, materials, and construction systems that respond to current and future needs of public infrastructure, as well as compliance with high standards of quality in the design and execution of these. It is necessary to ensure and control that actions comply with mandatory regulations (such as the Technical Building Code) to justify the reliability of solutions and the validity of their guarantees. All these maintenance, repair, and improvement requirements require accurate data on the state of buildings, their surroundings, and the actual quality achieved in the works carried out. This can only be achieved through the use of instrumental means and specialized personnel who collect data, perform laboratory tests, functional tests, and quality controls, covering geotechnical, conservation, technical, and constructive aspects.»
«With this innovative service, we will complement the existing resources in the Technical Office of Municipal Buildings, through technical assistance from specialized external companies that will provide the technological means and technical team required to act in both planned and continuous interventions, as well as in urgent or unique situations,» Gastalver concluded.
New bathrooms in Buenavista and San Pablo schools
Similarly, new improvements have been approved in public schools in Seville during the government meeting. Among them, the tender for the renovation of the bathrooms in Buenavista and San Pablo schools, in the North and San Pablo-Santa Justa districts, respectively, stand out.
In this regard, CEIP San Pablo will have new bathrooms in the coming months with an investment of €327,688.
In this regard, Gastalver highlighted that «this work is part of the ambitious plan of improvements in schools that we are carrying out with Mayor José Luis Sanz at the forefront. Therefore, it is now the turn of the bathrooms. In cases like the one at CEIP San Pablo, these bathrooms are over 34 years old, as they were installed in 1991 and have never been touched since. The renovation of these bathrooms involves a comprehensive intervention to address a historical demand from the school and its educational community.»
On the other hand, the renovation works of the bathrooms at CEIP Buenavista located in the San Jerónimo neighborhood have also been tendered with a budget of over €250,000.
In this regard, Gastalver stated that «this is a much-needed work where a comprehensive renovation of all the school’s bathrooms is being carried out.»
«These actions add to the numerous investments we are making in these educational centers in Seville and demonstrate the firm commitment of this government to bring the public schools of the city out of decades of neglect and lay the foundations for a quality public education,» Gastalver concluded.
