The Department of Health and Consumer Affairs, the Andalusian Health Service, through the General Directorate of Personnel and the Andalusian Emergency Plan, and IAVANTE of the Progress and Health Foundation will carry out a total of eight activities in 2025 included in a training program on the urgent treatment of patients in vital risk. This activity on advanced medical life support, AMLS for its acronym in English, is endorsed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians of the United States (NAEMT) and is taught in healthcare centers and at the Advanced Clinical Simulation Center of IAVANTE.
The 36-hour course is aimed at Medicine and Nursing professionals specialized in Emergencies, who undergo an intensive training through recreations of critical emergency care situations caused by respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, endocrine-metabolic, infectious, or toxicological pathologies, among others, using clinical simulation methodologies.
This model allows optimizing the learning process by reducing the training curve and increasing patient safety. Professionals acquire and reinforce their skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of critical patients in pre-hospital or hospital emergency settings, following European and international standards.
According to Paco Pepe Gómez, coordinator of the Programs area at IAVANTE, «This activity is a commitment from the Department of Health and Consumer Affairs to provide a quality, certified, and accredited training, which allows participants to access a deep knowledge of the specific emergency care situations addressed.»
One of the remarkable aspects of this training is the composition of the teaching staff, made up of active professionals from the Andalusian Health Service, who bring their daily experience in managing patients in critical situations. In addition to this factor, the use of clinical simulation ensures comprehensive learning where participants take on a leading and active role.
This program is part of the Training Plan in Emergencies and Urgencies that the Andalusian Health Service offers to professionals in the Public Health System of Andalusia through IAVANTE, which will provide a hundred training activities to over 2,000 professionals this year.
