The delegate of Fiestas Mayores, Manuel Alés, attended the presentation of the XXV anniversary poster of the canonical coronation of the Pura y Limpia del Postigo on Tuesday. The artwork, created by artist José Tomás Pérez Indiano, was revealed at an event held in the Sala Capitular Baja of the City Hall of Seville.
In this regard, the delegate emphasized «the importance of this anniversary that celebrates this fundamental devotion of the city of Seville, as the Postigo del Aceite is a key place to understand the city and its brotherhoods for centuries, and now, the feast of the Immaculate will be part of the Major Festivities Calendar of the City of Seville.» Alés also highlighted «the strength of this work created by the great artist José Tomás Pérez Indiano that perfectly reflects the beauty of a devotion anchored in the history of Seville.»
Titled «White Rose of the Postigo, from the Arenal garden,» the artwork is inspired by the litany of the Mystical Rose Rosary. The Pure and Clean Virgin emerges from a white rose, symbolizing purity, as the verses of D.ª Amparo Castilla Candón state: «White rose of the Postigo, from the Arenal garden, you have the whiteness of foam, of the waves of the sea.»
As the author pointed out: «The composition is dominated by blue tones, the color of the Immaculate. In a background of lilies and lilies and a beam of light, the Virgin Mary, Pure and Clean, crowned by lilies, symbol of the purity of Mary, is presented to us, in whose clothing floral symbols are intertwined with the embroidery of the image itself. A historic milestone was when Saint John Paul II prostrated himself before the Blessed Image during his visit to Seville, this moment is immortalized in the interior of the clothing of the Sacred Image. An angel at her feet carries the crown with which her blessed temples were crowned twenty-five years ago. Offering it with his hand to the Pure and Clean as Seville did on that historic day.»
A crescent moon at her feet, in allusion to the passage of the Apocalypse; a sign of Mary and the Church itself: «And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet.» Above the crescent moon, a White Dove perches on it, a symbol of the Holy Spirit in the Annunciation of the Most Holy Virgin. Behind the crescent moon, a dragon biting an apple appears, in allusion to the original sin and the triumph of Mary over sin, in her pure conception. The composition is closed with the legend «XXV ANNIVERSARY CANONICAL CORONATION, PURE AND CLEAN OF THE POSTIGO. SEVILLE.»
The poster is created using mixed technique, in watercolors, colored pencils, and acrylic on paper.
Cults
On the other hand, the head brother, Álvaro Rosa, has detailed the acts and cults to be carried out on the occasion of this anniversary, which will begin on May 24 with the celebration of the May cult at the Sagrario Parish. For this, the image will be carried on a litter for the Eucharistic celebration.
For this reason, the image will visit the temples of the neighboring brotherhoods of Las Aguas, el Baratillo, and la Carretería, carrying it on litters to their canonical seats. For this, the recitation of the rosary will be revived. Thus, the image will receive worship in the chapels of the mentioned brotherhoods from October 5 to 25, remaining in each of them for a week, serving, Chapel of the Rosary (Brotherhood of Las Aguas): from October 5 to 11, chapel of the Carretería (Brotherhood of the Carretería): from October 11 to 18, and chapel of the Piedad (Brotherhood of el Baratillo): from October 18 to 25.
Similarly, the corporation has highlighted its social work «Pure Charity,» which aims to have a gathering with a group of elderly people from the Hospital de la Caridad outside their residence, praying the Angelus before our Sacred Titular and providing attention and companionship during the morning. This activity will take place coinciding with the stay of the Virgin in each of these brotherhoods, thus reinforcing the commitment of the brothers and devotees of both corporations to the most in need.
In the exhibitions section, the brotherhood will organize two exhibitions, curated by Antonio M.ª Lebrero Ramírez.
On the one hand, during the first half of September, the City Hall of Seville will host an exhibition showcasing belongings of our brotherhood, as well as other corporations, with the main theme being the Pure and Clean Conception.
On the other hand, from October 9 to 25, at the Real Círculo de Labradores, a second exhibition will take place, in this case, of pictorial works, which, created by various artists, will be related to the Immaculate. Additionally, during this period, two round tables focused on the anniversary commemorating this corporation will be held.
