After their direct relegation to the UEFA Nations League B and while waiting to start their journey towards the 2026 World Cup in June, Switzerland faces the March break with two friendly matches. The first of them was played this Friday night in Belfast against Northern Ireland, a match that ended in a one-one draw thanks to goals from Price for the home team and Sierro for the Swiss, all within the first half-hour of play. Of the two Swiss players called up in this FIFA window, Rubén Vargas started and played 59 minutes before being substituted by Zeqiri. Meanwhile, Djibril Sow was the last to come in for Murat Yakin’s team, taking Sierro’s place three minutes before the 90th minute. Before returning to Sevilla, Vargas and Sow will have to face another friendly match on Tuesday in Sant Gallen against Luxembourg.
Also starting tonight was Lucien Agoumé, in this case with the France U-21 team against England in the French city of Lorient. Agoumé was a starter in midfield and played 67 minutes on the field before being replaced by Lepenant. In a very entertaining match, it was France who came out on top with a spectacular 5-3 victory, with Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt scoring a brace. Merlin and Cherki completed the French scoring sheet, while the English goals came from McAtee, Elliott, and Delap. On Monday at 6:30 p.m. and also in a friendly match, the France U-21 team will visit the host of the European Championship, Slovakia.
