More than 1,300 people have visited the booth of the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality to promote scientific and technological vocations in girls and young people during the Science Fair of Seville, held from April 22 to 24. Students, teachers, and families have been able to enjoy talks, workshops, and experiments organized by the Andalusian Women’s Institute (IAM) and the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ), in collaboration with WomANDigital from the Digital Agency of Andalusia, CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia), and Ellas Vuelan Alto (EVA), as well as to learn about the coeducational mobile application ‘Iguales en igualdad’.
The director of the Andalusian Women’s Institute (IAM), Olga Carrión, who attended the event’s inauguration, has pointed out that ‘Iguales en igualdad’ is «the new mobile application of the Junta de Andalucía that provides the educational community with key materials to promote equality between girls and boys from the age of three, as well as to prevent gender violence.»
Carrión has emphasized that «this application contains stories, educational guides, campaigns, and countless activities for all ages that promote equality,» while also explaining that «access is quick, easy, and does not require registration.» The ‘app’ is available on Android and iOS.
This tool, which is free, is aimed at teachers and students from Early Childhood Education to Baccalaureate, as well as mothers and fathers. During the Science Fair, more than 400 brochures with detailed information about this tool have been distributed, which gathers material with a single click to promote scientific and technological disciplines, promote equality from childhood, and prevent violence.
During these three days, the booth shared by the Andalusian Women’s Institute and the Andalusian Youth Institute has hosted different talks, experiments, and exhibitions related to the STEM field, that is, those disciplines related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Topics such as digital security, the recycling process, aerial robotics, new learning methods for welding, and practical workshops on assembling electrical circuits for aircraft have been addressed.
The Science Fair, organized by the Andalusian Society for the Dissemination of Science (SADC), is an exhibition space where the world of research, educational centers, museums, companies, universities, and the general public come together, with the aim of exchanging, disseminating, and communicating scientific, technical, and environmental knowledge. This year marked its 23rd edition.
