The counselor for Tourism and External Andalusia of the Andalusian Government, Arturo Bernal, has highlighted the government’s commitment to major events that strengthen the Andalusia brand as a venue for major international events, such as the 2025 Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix.
This was explained during a media briefing before attending the Saturday session of the Grand Prix in a very special edition as the Ángel Nieto circuit celebrates its 40th anniversary. Accompanied by the mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, and the government delegate of the Junta in Cádiz, Mercedes Colombo, the counselor expressed that «the history of motorcycling cannot be understood without the great stories that have taken place on this asphalt.»
«Since 1987, major events have been held in a Jerez and motorcycles partnership that is indestructible. Over these four decades, we have managed to make this weekend the most special of the entire world championship. There is no doubt that this atmosphere, the warmth of the fans, make the riders feel at home,» assessed Arturo Bernal.
In this sense, he thanked the State Security Forces and emergency services for ensuring another weekend where «we only have to focus on enjoying the show.»
«Therefore – he continued – «we continue to bet from the Andalusian Government on major events that strengthen our brand as a venue for internationally impactful events.» An impulse with which, in Arturo Bernal’s opinion, we achieve the effect of managing seasonality and attracting visitors in times of the year away from the high season.
The Tourism head also explained that they aim to attract new audiences, as was seen during this past Easter. «Thanks to our campaigns, we are managing to attract a new group of tourists, that Generation Z which also has a high spending capacity. Now our goal is to retain their visits to Andalusia,» he detailed.
«We are talking about an event that last year attracted over 180,000 spectators, and this year, based on the impressions of these first days, we could exceed that figure,» predicted the counselor, highlighting the hotel occupancy data indicating a full house not only in Jerez but also throughout the Bay of Cádiz area.
The mayor of Jerez thanks the Andalusian Government and especially the Tourism Department for their support of the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix, the first to be held in Europe. It is a pride to have a renovated circuit, with more security measures and more beautiful thanks to the collaboration of the City Council and the Junta.
The Grand Prix represents a significant economic return not only for Jerez and the province of Cádiz but for Andalusia, and I believe that Andalusians should be very proud of this facility.
