The Government Council has taken note of the ruling of the XXIX edition of the Andalusia Environmental Awards (PAMA), which recognizes the exemplary contribution of entities, administrations, companies, media, and individuals who stand out for their work in defense of the natural values of Andalusia, the conservation of biodiversity, the promotion of the circular economy, or the fight against climate change.
In this edition, whose award ceremony will take place on June 24, 2025, awards have been granted in eight categories, in addition to an honorary mention, in different specific areas of environmental action: conservation of the natural environment, biodiversity, urban sustainability, fight against climate change, circular economy, sustainable hunting, environmental education, and individual or institutional commitment. A diverse set of areas that reflect the transversal and collective approach required for the ecological transition.
In a society increasingly aware of the effects of global warming, species loss, or environmental degradation, these awards give a face to the collective effort to build a more habitable future. They do so from a comprehensive perspective, recognizing both scientific knowledge and innovative solutions, educational commitment, sustainable resource management, or the direct involvement of rural communities, municipalities, or schools.
In the category of Conservation, Natural Environment, and Sustainable Development, the award has been granted to the entity Agrícola El Bosque, S.L., recognized for its strong commitment to reconciling agricultural production with the conservation of the natural environment. Located in Lucena del Puerto (Huelva), this farm of over 160 hectares combines productive innovation, social inclusion, and sustainability. Particularly relevant was its response after the fire that affected part of its land in the summer of 2023. The company then embarked on an ambitious restoration process that in 2024 has reinforced its role as an example of balance between development and environmental protection.
In the Biodiversity category, the Lorenzo García Ringing Station, in the lagoons of Adra (Almería), has been awarded for its valuable scientific and educational contribution. For over a decade, a team of volunteers has altruistically monitored bird populations through constant ringing, providing valuable data to understand the effects of global change on these ecosystems. This work, carried out within a protected natural area and surrounded by intense agricultural activity, allows progress in conservation and awareness, bringing science closer to students, researchers, and the local population.
The commitment of local administrations also has a place in this edition. The La Línea de la Concepción City Council (Cádiz) has been recognized in the Urban Sustainability and Environment category for its management model that integrates respect for the environment into the city’s strategy. Its Municipal Plan against Climate Change includes more than 40 lines of action, including innovative experiences such as the recovery of the skeleton of a common rorqual as a resource for environmental awareness or the integrated sighting of cetaceans from the urban beach.
The Climate Change category has recognized two entities with outstanding trajectories: the Real Betis Balompié Foundation, for its Forever Green project, and the company Heineken España. The verdiblanco club has in a few years positioned itself as a benchmark in sustainability within sports, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and adding dozens of entities to a platform that projects environmental values on a global scale. On the other hand, Heineken has promoted in Seville the largest industrial solar thermal plant in Europe destined to generate heat for its production processes, a project that combines technological innovation, local production, and environmental impact reduction.
Likewise, in the Circular Economy category, the commitment of the entity Greening Relieve, S.L. to this sector has been recognized, which, together with the University of Granada, has developed a pioneering technology for the comprehensive recycling of photovoltaic panels. Thanks to this system, waste accumulation is avoided, and high-quality materials are recovered with a lower carbon footprint. Along with them, the public company Limpieza de Málaga, S.A.M. has been distinguished for its model of proximity clean points, which brings waste management closer to neighborhoods and promotes citizen participation in separation, recycling, and reuse.
In the Sustainable Hunting category, the Crestagallo Hunters Sports Society of Almargen (Málaga) has received the award for its active involvement in habitat improvement and the recovery of wild species. Its continued work has favored the stable presence of threatened birds, such as the golden eagle or the little bustard, demonstrating that a responsible and sustainable management of hunting activity can contribute to ecological balance and the maintenance of biodiversity.
The dissemination and environmental education also have a prominent place among the awardees. Canal Sur Radio has been awarded in the Education and Environmental Sensitivity category for its ‘Climate Change’ program, a pioneer at the national level and a reference in social awareness. With rigorous and accessible language, it has been contributing since 2019 to bringing scientific knowledge closer, giving voice to researchers, and promoting a culture of shared responsibility in the face of global warming.
In the Environmental Commitment category, the University of Jaén has been distinguished for integrating sustainability as a transversal principle in its academic, management, and research structure. This strategic commitment has earned it recognition in international rankings and has consolidated it as a key player in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in the university environment.
In a special way, the jury wanted to award an Honorary Mention to the Virgen de Guadalupe Primary School, in Úbeda (Jaén), for its exemplary work as an educational center committed to environmental awareness from childhood. Their continued work demonstrates the value of the school environment as a seedbed of ecological awareness and a driver of social transformation.
With these awards, the Andalusian government makes visible and promotes the involvement of different social actors in the common challenge of protecting the environment. Each edition of the Andalusia Environmental Awards is also a message of hope and a collective stimulus to advance towards a respectful, fair, and sustainable development model. Its raison d’être is not only to recognize good practices but to multiply their impact by inspiring new generations, the business fabric, citizens, and institutions.
