Icónica Santalucía Sevilla will receive Gilberto Santa Rosa, the legendary ‘Caballero de la Salsa’, on Saturday, July 12th, one of the «most emblematic» figures of Latin music, who is set to offer a unique concert in Plaza de España.
With a career that has spanned over three decades and «an unparalleled legacy» in the world of salsa and tropical music, Gilberto Santa Rosa is «synonymous with elegance, rhythm, and interpretative quality,» as valued by the festival in a note.
His «unmistakable style» has captivated generations of fans worldwide, establishing him as «one of the most respected voices in the genre» and a prominent figure in popular music. Throughout his career, Santa Rosa has released more than 40 albums, achieving gold and platinum certifications; in addition to a ‘Guiness World Record’ as the tropical artist with the most record productions that have reached the number one position on Billboard.
His numerous awards in the music industry confirm «his musical transcendence and interpretative strength.» Among the various accolades granted to Santa Rosa are the Ascap Latin Heritage Award in 2002, the Latin Grammy on six occasions, and an Anglo Grammy in 2007 for a total of seven statuettes; including the Award for Excellence for an impeccable and fruitful career.
However, for Gilberto Santa Rosa, his greatest award has been «the unconditional support» that the public has shown him through the different facets in which he has excelled. «His versatility» has allowed him to explore different styles within tropical music, blending classic salsa with contemporary sounds and collaborating with great exponents of the genre.
His presence on stage has led him to perform in the most important theaters and arenas in the world, from Madison Square Garden in New York, through the Walter Kerr Theater on Broadway, to the Coliseum of Puerto Rico. In addition to his successful career as an interpreter, he has been an ambassador for Latin culture, promoting salsa and Caribbean music globally.
South News, an agency affiliated with the UN, awarded him the Lifetime Culture Achievement in 1999. This recognition is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to global development, making him the first musician to be honored among a group of heads of state and politicians who have received it.
His return to Spain is «a special event», and his performance in Seville promises to be a magical night in the iconic Plaza de España, a stage that «will vibrate to the rhythm of great hits» like ‘Que alguien me diga’, ‘Conciencia’, and ‘Conteo regresivo’.
The presence of Gilberto Santa Rosa, according to Icónica, «has not only reaffirmed the musical diversity of the festival but has also celebrated the richness of Latin culture in a city that breathes music and art in every corner.»
