Today, the City Council of Seville approved injecting 10 million euros into Lipasam in an Extraordinary Plenary Session, convened at the initiative of the Government Team, to improve the cleanliness of our city through a budget modification, providing more resources to the public cleaning company of Seville that will increase its investments.
This initiative, which will provide Lipasam with greater liquidity to improve its services, was approved with the favorable votes of the Popular Group and Vox, and with the rejection of the PSOE and Podemos-IU, who voted against it.
The Delegate of Finance, Administration, and Digital Transformation, Juan Bueno, stated that this Plenary demonstrates that «the Government of José Luis Sanz continues to bet on efficient management of resources that allows us to improve the service we provide to citizens, specifically in terms of cleanliness, without compromising the financial situation of the City Council.» He highlighted the inconsistency of the PSOE and Podemos-IU, who constantly talk about dismantling public services but voted against injecting money into Lipasam.
«Dismantling public services is not supporting Lipasam today. I missed hearing them say they supported it wholeheartedly and that they were going to vote against because they thought it was too little money.»
Reduction of 54.5% of the debt
In this Extraordinary Plenary, it was also approved, with the favorable vote of the Popular Group and the abstention of the opposition, to reduce the municipal debt by 54.5% by allocating 129,958,163.40 euros to the early repayment of 7 loans currently held by the City Council.
Of these, 5 will be definitively canceled, reducing the number of open loans from 15 to 10. One of the loans being definitively repaid was contracted by the Municipal Corporation in 2008. Specifically, the almost 130 million reduction in debt will be applied to loans formalized in the years 2008, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
The Delegate of Finance, Juan Bueno, pointed out that with this measure, «the situation of our Local Treasury is significantly improved, achieving a reduction in debt of almost 65% since our arrival in municipal government,» an initiative that, as he highlighted, complements the high budget execution and tax reductions.
In this regard, Bueno explained that «there are four things that the Socialist Municipal Group is very wrong about as a result of this Government’s good performance.»
One, «tax reduction. They said we were going to create a hole, but so far, we have increased revenue.» Two, budget execution. «In five months, almost 80%, more than you did in a year. Three, they only built 83 houses in 8 years,» compared to the 4600 currently being built, 2200 directly by Emvisesa, «and four, the number of works being done in the neighborhoods, which count in the tens, and more to come.»
Debt reduction
By applying these 129.9 million euros, not only is the current debt reduced, but Sevillians are also spared future interest payments by early repayment of these loans.
With this situation, the City Council’s debt will decrease from 220 million euros to 100 million, a reduction of 54.5%, continuing the trend of the Municipal Corporation’s financial health. Upon the current Government’s arrival, the City Council had a debt of 283 million euros. If this repayment is approved, the debt will be reduced to just 100 million euros.
