The rehabilitation works of the Frontón Betis building have started this Thursday with the laying of the first stone. It is a promotion of 16 social rental housing units. Present at the event were the Government Subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, the Mayor, José Luis Sanz, and the Vice Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, Mario Muñoz-Atanet Sánchez.
A total of 2,711,151 euros will be invested in the Residencial Frontón Betis thanks to the collaboration between the Spanish Government, the Andalusian Regional Government, and the City Council.
The building will have elevators to ensure accessibility to all housing units, as well as improved thermal and acoustic insulation. The units will have two bedrooms designed to optimize space and enhance the quality of life for tenants.
The 16 rental units will be located in El Porvenir, near María Luisa Park, Plaza de España, and the Reina Mercedes university campus, and will be rented for around 450 euros per month.
The Mayor of Seville highlighted in a press release that «the laying of this first stone reflects the clear commitment of the Seville City Council to social housing with the aim of facilitating access to housing for Sevillians, especially young people.»
He also mentioned that the Seville City Council’s 2024-2027 Shock Plan includes an investment of around 330 million euros, with 150 million directly contributed by the council through Emvisesa, to carry out 23 residential projects to build 2,200 social housing units.
In addition to the public social housing units, «we must add another 2,400 units from public-private collaboration, which will allow us to reach 4,600 housing units and position Seville at the forefront of social housing in Spain, just behind Madrid,» added the Mayor.
The actions, co-financed by the Spanish Government with 1.4 million euros (over 60%), are «a small example of the results that we will soon see in Seville thanks to the investment of over 100 million euros in housing by the Spanish Government,» stated the Government Subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, regarding a housing promotion co-financed by the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan of the Spanish Government with funds from the European Union’s Next Generation Funds.
«Housing is the most significant general challenge we face, and for that reason, the Spanish Government is committed to regularization, public investment, and cooperation between administrations,» Toscano continued, as reflected in a statement.
MORE THAN 4,400 HOUSING UNITS UNDERWAY IN SEVILLE
«The Spanish Government has already signed a total of 4,448 housing units in Seville as part of the last two state housing plans and the SEPES, a number that will continue to increase,» specified Toscano regarding ongoing projects in the province, representing the largest mobilization of public housing in Andalusia.
In this regard, the 16 units in Frontón Betis are part of the 2,953 units financed through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, an investment of over 100 million euros in the province made by the Spanish Government in the last four years in terms of housing. Specifically, 79 million euros have been allocated to build 2,121 social rental units in the province, with 1,883 units (endowed with 68 million euros) located in Seville and the rest in the municipalities of Lebrija, Alcalá de Guadaíra, Utrera, and Herrera. Additionally, over 22 million euros have been allocated for the rehabilitation of neighborhoods in Seville, Morón de la Frontera, San Juan Aznalfarache, and Utrera, ensuring the improvement of 832 homes, all funded by the Recovery Plan.
Furthermore, the construction works of the Regimiento de Artillería residential complex initiated in May are added to the list of investments, with 948 housing units valued at 13.7 million euros funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, another concrete example of state investment in the province, this time under the Affordable Housing Plan.
The 16 units in the Frontón Betis building have received a boost of 1.4 million euros from the Spanish Government through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan and the Affordable Rental Housing Plan of the Ministry, co-financed by the Municipal Plan for Housing, Land, and Rehabilitation of Seville. The residential complex, promoted by Emvisesa, has had a total investment of 2,289,601 euros.
