The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development has published in the Official Gazette of the Andalusian Government (BOJA) the expansion of the funding for grants that promote the digitalization of urban water use control in water supply networks of municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants. With an increase of 7.5 million euros, the call opened in 2024 nearly doubles its initial allocation (7.6 million euros) and finally exceeds 15 million euros of multi-year budget (2024-2026).
The economic resources allocated last year to these grants by the central Government, financed through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, were insufficient to meet all the requests that met the requirements in Andalusia. For this reason, the Ministry of Agriculture requested the State to increase the funds for actions that improve the resilience of territories in the face of drought situations, by helping to save water resources lost due to leaks.
Thanks to the budget increase, the Regional Government will be able to support all the projects submitted by Andalusian municipalities last year that met the requirements of the regulatory framework. Specifically, 166 municipalities from all provinces of Andalusia will benefit from these grants. In Almería, 25 localities will have access to the grants, in Cádiz, 19 municipalities, in Córdoba, 49 population centers, and in Granada, 13 municipalities. In Huelva, the grants will improve the water supply network of 25 localities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, in Jaén, three municipalities will receive the grants, in Málaga, two centers, and in Seville, 30 municipalities.
These grants are part of the Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation (Perte) of water cycle digitalization.
