The Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, presented the programming of the Andalusian Circuit of Flamenco Clubs for 2025 at the Fernando Terremoto Flamenco Cultural Association in Jerez. This program consists of 225 performances of singing, guitar, and dancing in 224 entities spread throughout all the Andalusian provinces, thirty more performances than the previous year.
«The budget for the Andalusian Circuit of Flamenco Clubs for 2025 amounts to 250,000 euros, a 20% increase, thus materializing the commitment of the Andalusian Government to the flamenco associative fabric,» highlighted Patricia del Pozo, who was accompanied by the Mayor of Jerez, Maria José García-Pelayo; the President of the Andalusian Confederation of Flamenco Clubs, Concha Prieto; and representatives of the clubs from the various provincial federations, as well as different agents from the sector.
The increase in budget has allowed the circuit to go from 191 performances in 2024 to 225 this year. «The majority of the program’s performances will take place between the months of September and November, coinciding with the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the declaration of Flamenco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO,» explained Minister Del Pozo.
On the other hand, the Mayor of Jerez, Maria José García-Pelayo, thanked the Minister of Culture for once again choosing Jerez to present a cultural initiative that, on this occasion, «is aimed at promoting flamenco in Andalusia and will allow us to say it in a city that boasts of being the cradle of this intangible art.»
«No less than 33 clubs from our province will participate in this Circuit, which will also serve to maintain a collaboration with the flamenco associative fabric,» stated the Mayor, highlighting that «Jerez is art and is flamenco art. So there could not have been a better setting for this presentation than our city and, specifically, the Fernando Terremoto Cultural Association.»
The distribution of performances by province follows balanced objective criteria based on the number of federated clubs. In a participatory process, each federation has selected the artists who will perform from a catalog designed after a public call that gathers almost 300 proposals. This catalog allows any interested party to perform on equal terms and with transparency.
In total, more than 472 artists will participate in the complete program until the end of the year. In Almería, which has 11 performances, the cycle will pay tribute to the figure of Tomatito from July 12 to November 29, with the participation of ten clubs from eight locations. On the other hand, Cádiz will dedicate its circuit to Juan Villar from September 5 to November 29, being one of the provinces with a wider program, as it includes 33 performances in as many clubs from 23 municipalities.
‘Solera flamenca’ is the name of the cycle that will take place in Córdoba between November 2 and 20, and it has scheduled a total of 32 performances in 28 municipalities. The Cordoba program will include the III Flamenco Gala where the Cultural Flamenco Club Agustín Fernández from Pozoblanco and the Cultural Flamenco Club Aguilarense from Aguilar de la Frontera, which are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, will be honored.
Granada will have a total of 16 performances (10 singing and 6 dancing) that will take place between September 6 and November 29 and will be present in 15 municipalities of the province. Also, September will be the month in which the Provincial Circuit of Clubs of Huelva will begin, which has planned 16 performances (11 singing, 3 dancing, and 2 guitar) in 13 locations in Huelva until the end of November.
Last June, ‘A la verde Oliva’ began, the first part of the provincial circuit of Jaén, which will be completed with a second part between September 19 and November 29. In total, the province of Jaén will have 28 performances in 25 municipalities. From September 6 to November 29, the program will include 34 performances of singing, guitar, and dancing in Málaga.
This year also marks the centenary of the birth of the painter and poet Francisco Moreno Galván, and for this reason, the Federation of Clubs of Seville will dedicate its Circuit to remembering his legacy. This will take place from September 5 to November 30 in 41 municipalities (48 singing performances, 3 dancing performances, and 4 guitar performances).
The Ministry of Culture and Sports will allocate 350,000 euros this year to the flamenco associative fabric to fulfill the commitment made to the sector. In addition to the Andalusian Circuit of Clubs, these entities are hosting the artists from the Andalusian Circuit of Young Flamenco Artists in the provincial phases, a program carried out in collaboration with the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ), with the aim of promoting flamenco and creating opportunities for the creation, as well as attracting, new audiences among young people.
On the other hand, other dissemination and promotion activities will be held complementary to the singing, guitar, and dancing performances in the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the declaration of Flamenco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In mid-June, the call for grants to the flamenco associative fabric was launched, with a maximum budget of 65,000 euros assigned. Additionally, the federations have played an active role in selecting the posters for each of the provincial circuits.
