The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has stated that this summer the additional 15.5 million euros approved by the Council of Government at the end of June for the extraordinary financing of Andalusian public universities will be paid, thus fulfilling the agreement reached in March with their rectors.
In this way, he has asserted that the remaining amount to complete the agreed upon sum will be determined once the universities conclude the evaluation of the performance of the horizontal career of their Technical, Management, Administration, and Services Personnel.
Moreno, who presided over the inauguration of José Rodríguez as the new rector of the University of Huelva at the Palacio de San Telmo, has pointed out that the financing model for this year will be based on the initial 1.726 million approved in the Junta’s budget, plus this extraordinary financing, which will amount to at least 21 million in total.
At this point, he has reiterated the commitment of the Andalusian Government to public universities, as well as the strong support that has been demonstrated in addressing their challenges and providing solutions through dialogue and consensus with the rectors and the entire university community. «After years of advocacy, our universities have a new financing model that gives them full economic certainty and enables them to continue to grow and be more efficient,» he added.
It is here where he has pointed out that thanks to this model the University of Huelva received a record financing in 2014, around 86 million euros and has accumulated a 21% increase since 2018, 15 million more in just six years, a very significant growth, to which another 4.5 million in improvements and incentives have been added.
«The commitment of this Government with this new model is for the budget to be higher each year. Despite Andalusia being burdened by an unfair regional financing model with our population, which translates into 1.5 billion euros less per year.

The Andalusian President has emphasized that this academic year, after fifteen years without new degrees, 42 out of the total of 188 approved will begin to be taught, all thanks to the new Map of Degrees, which addresses a much-needed renewal to adapt education to the demands of our time.
In the case of the University of Huelva, he has assured that its offering will be increased, by 2028, with ten new degrees, six bachelor’s degrees, two master’s degrees, and two doctorates, and has specified that the first of these, the Physics degree, will debut next academic year, being taught in collaboration with the University of Almería.

Moreno also made reference to the future University Law, which aims to propose a comprehensive modernization in pursuit of that ultimate goal of excellence in education and research that we seek, and that will be the result of agreement and participation.
