Belén Esteban stars in La Alameda’s prelude, one of this year’s key moments in the programming
Singer Melody, who represented Spain in the last edition of Eurovision, will perform this Friday in Seville as part of the programming around International Pride Day, celebrated every June 28. Along with the artist from Nazareth, Merche, Roser, Shaila Dúrcal, Jorge González, J-Kbello, and Vicco will take the stage after the reading of a manifesto for the rights of transgender people.
The program started this week and continued this Thursday at Alameda de Hércules with the Pride prelude by Mayo, Kisca, Manuel Jiménez, and Belén Esteban. Attendees then enjoyed performances by Uceda and Camela, along with the Drag Tagayther Gala as the finale for the day.
On June 27, the trans march organized by the historic association ATA Sylvia Rivera will take place, starting from Plaza Nueva in Seville at 7:00 pm. This mobilization, now in its third consecutive year, aims to make the demands and realities of the transgender community visible in a context marked by legislative setbacks, hate speech, and structural precariousness. Under the motto «Stand up against hate,» the march will traverse the streets of the city center, culminating in Alameda de Hércules.
On Saturday, the 28th, the Southern Pride Manifestation will take place, a festive parade that will travel the Ronda Histórica before ending at Alameda, where performances by Carmen la Hierbabuena, Imperio Reina, Las Ketchup, WRS, Eleni Foureira, Xenón, Samantha Ballentines, and Sonia y Selena will follow. The celebration will conclude on Sunday with shows by Kingdom, Loco Bongo Deluxe, and Ladilla Rusa.
To ensure safety, Alameda de Hércules will be closed to traffic from June 26 to June 29, between 5:00 pm and 2:00 am.
On Wednesday, the Equality delegate at the Seville City Council, José Luis García, presided over the raising of the LGTBIQ+ flag at City Hall as part of the activities for International Pride Day. Additionally, a diversity and equality manifesto was read by Pablo Álvarez, president of the Plataforma Orgullo del Sur.
VARIOUS EXHIBITIONS
Alongside these events, the Diversity Month brings together seven thematic exhibitions. The first of these, ‘Diverse Families, Common Lives,’ a photographic exhibition organized by Entidad Crezco, concluded this Wednesday at Hogar Virgen de los Reyes. Also, the exhibition ‘Visibility of the Queer Community’ through drag queen La Fernanda, organized by ATA Sylvia Rivera, is on display at Sala Antiquarium until June 29.
In addition to these activities, there are numerous conferences, screenings, discussions, tours, events, and fairs organized by entities working with and for the LGTBIQ+ community.
THE POSTER: A WORK BY DANIEL VIVAS
The official image, created by Seville designer Daniel Vivas, founder of Superbritánico, encapsulates the inclusive essence of the campaign. Against a backdrop of colors reminiscent of the rainbow flag and Curro’s nose, the mascot of Expo 92, rises one of the chimneys of the old Cartuja factory — conceived in 1841 by British Charles Pickman — transformed into the traditional clay incense burner found in many Sevillian homes.
The avant-garde typography, inspired by the posters of the Spring Festivals of the 1960s, is topped with the popular expression ‘Tos por igual,’ summarizing the campaign’s message: «Seville is a city where everyone is welcome.»
