The Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing of the Junta, Rocío Díaz, and the Mayor of Alhendín (Granada), Jorge Sánchez, have signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of a new 1.5-kilometer cycle and pedestrian path that will connect the municipalities of Alhendín and Armilla in Granada. The project will have an investment of approximately 1,380,163 euros and an estimated execution period of six months once the works begin.
Rocío Díaz has stated that, with the signing of this agreement, they are meeting «a historical demand from the residents of Alhendín» that will «improve the lives of the residents by connecting them to the Metro in Armilla.» Likewise, the Minister of Development has mentioned that, with the signing of the agreement, they are taking «an important step to tender the works» this year and thus «be able to start the works in the first months of 2026.»
Similarly, she has expressed gratitude for the effort made by all administrations to implement this infrastructure. «If we all come together and work in the same direction, we achieve results,» she asserted.
The cycle-pedestrian path will directly connect residential areas of Alhendín through Armilla, facilitating comfortable and sustainable daily commutes. It has been designed to promote intermodality with the combined use of bicycles and public transport, especially with the Metro of Granada, to which it directly connects, and with the urban and peri-urban bus lines that have stops along the route.
The new cycle path will run along a 1,415-meter stretch, which runs parallel to the N-323 road and crosses various types of pavement, from tiled sidewalks to natural terrain. The works will adapt the route to the quality and accessibility standards established by the Junta de Andalucía and the European Eurovelo network, incorporating shared pedestrian and cycling areas with an average width of at least five meters.
This agreement is aligned with the objectives of the Junta de Andalucia to provide alternatives to car use and promote public transport. In this regard, the Minister emphasized that «the government of Juanma Moreno does not make promises, it carries out projects and works with planning, technical rigor, and sensitivity towards the real needs of the citizens.»
The Minister and the Mayor were accompanied at this agreement signing ceremony by the President of the Diputación de Granada, Francis Rodríguez; the Government Delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Granada, Antonio Granados; the Director General of Transport Infrastructures, Eduardo Gutiérrez, and the Territorial Delegate of Development in the province of Granada, Antonio Ayllón.
