Sevilla’s Mayor, José Luis Sanz, has closed on Monday the ‘Family Schools’ program promoted by the Sevilla City Council, through the Education delegation, which helps parents of Sevillian students to strengthen their education during the development stage.
The closing event ‘Family Meetings’, held at the Real Alcázar, brought together about 200 Sevillian families who have participated in this activity, benefiting 18 educational centers in Sevilla, as detailed by the City Council in a statement.
In this regard, Sanz emphasized that «we continue to make available to Sevillians all the tools at our disposal for the benefit of their quality of life and that of the children in Sevilla. He also wanted to point out that «upon arriving, in the first budget, the item that grew the most was the educational one, 52% more than in the socialist era.»
In line with the above, he highlighted that the current City Council «has invested around one million euros in activities that reach 530 educational centers in two years, benefiting 35,833 Sevillians, promoting activities such as bringing chess to schools or launching the innovative program ¡Vive tu Cole!, which has opened 28 educational centers in Sevilla to their neighborhoods on weekends with a total of 11,742 participants.»
‘FAMILY SCHOOLS’
The ‘Family Schools’ program has provided families with a space in their own educational center for meeting and participation to address and reflect on topics such as communication and dialogue in the family, conflict resolution, self-esteem, limits and rules, school failure, as well as the new challenges that families have to face such as digital disconnection, emotional education, or understanding and learning about the socio-educational stage their children are going through, guided by a psychologist or pedagogue.
The program has offered families an opportunity to share and address the task of educating children and other issues that concern them with other families. In addition to the sessions, seminars have been offered from the Health area addressing topics such as first aid. Furthermore, to facilitate attendance at the Family Meetings Program, the nursery-playroom service has been offered to all participating families.
Therefore, the mayor concluded by stating that «families often lack emotional resources to support the child’s development. That is why we provide parents with this tool. These programs allow parents to be accompanied by professionals who help them in the challenging task of educating.»
The participating centers have been CPER Cruz del Campo, CEIP Al-Andalus, AMPA San Julián, CEIP Sor Ángela de la Cruz, AMPA Los Poemas from CDP Antonio Machado, CDP San José Mercedarias, AMPA La Cobaya from CEIP Jardines del Valle, AMPA Las Palmeritas from IES Beatriz de Suabia, AMPA Santa Justa from IES Isbilya, AMPA Séneca from IES Azahar, and AMPA Somos Escuela from CEIP Huerta de Santa Marina.
