The Seville City Council, through the Department of Trees, Parks, and Gardens, has begun a series of actions in the Príncipes Park, in the Los Remedios District, which includes the construction of a new dog park, planting of new trees, renovation of the pond system, and improvement of children’s play areas.
In a press release, the City Council highlights that these interventions are part of the municipal government’s commitment to strengthen maintenance and accessibility in the city’s large green spaces.
The main action is the relocation and comprehensive renovation of the dog recreation area. The new dog park, a result of joint work with residents of the Santa Fe street area and the Triana-Los Remedios Canine Association (ACATRE), is being carried out with a base bidding budget of 88,608 euros and an estimated four-month timeframe.
This new facility will have a total area of 2,671 square meters, divided into three zones: a double-door entrance, a specific area of 539 square meters for small or recovering dogs, and a large general recreation area of 2,108 square meters. The design has been conceived with sustainability and accessibility criteria, and will include resting areas for caregivers, inclusive benches, adapted fountains, trash cans, dog waste stations, and new enclosures.
Eco-friendly pavement will be installed, irrigation and sanitation networks will be renovated, and lighting will be enhanced. The urban furniture will be made of recycled and recyclable materials. One of the most innovative aspects is the incorporation of accessible signage with Navilens codes, which will allow visually impaired individuals to navigate from the park entrances to the new dog area.
In addition, information panels with rules of use and contact numbers will be placed, as well as guide signs at two points in the park. The current dog area will be dismantled and transformed into a new green space. The delegate of Trees, Parks, and Gardens, Evelia Rincón, stated that «this action responds to a historical neighborhood demand and has been designed in a participatory manner with district associations.»
«The new dog park in the Príncipes Park not only gains in space, comfort, and safety but also incorporates accessibility and sustainability criteria that mark the working line of this government with green spaces,» added the councilor.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN THE PRINCES PARK
Alongside this main action, other interventions are being carried out to improve the environmental quality and citizen use of the Príncipes Park. The tree mass is being expanded with the planting of 17 jacarandas (Jacaranda mimosifolia), nine bauhinias (Bauhinia variegata), and soon several date palm specimens (Phoenix dactylifera), which will increase shade areas and enhance the park’s landscape.
Likewise, a new floral arrangement of petunias has been created to beautify the walks. In the pond, a habitat for many birds, a total of 15,718 euros has been invested to repair the subaquatic aerator, a key piece to maintain the water in optimal conditions. In children’s areas, the sand floor is being replaced with shock-absorbing grass to increase safety and comfort for the little ones.
Similarly, through the Urbanism and Environment Management, the paving and reurbanization works of Alfredo Kraus Avenue in the Los Remedios district have been completed. The intervention has completely renovated the lateral road of the Príncipes Park, in its closest section to the fairgrounds, where it was deteriorated by sinkholes and roots.
The existing sidewalk has been renovated and expanded to make it more accessible and safe, eliminating irregularities caused by root growth and optimizing mobility for all pedestrians.
The intervention has included widening the sidewalk, reorganizing parking spaces, and reordering garden beds. Additionally, a section of the sanitation and lighting network has been improved, as well as the paving of the access lane to the Príncipes Park. Inside the Príncipes Park, a new sports area of 1900 square meters has been set up, including a calisthenics training area and spaces for ping-pong and petanque practice.
All these improvement works exceed an investment of 775,000 euros. With this set of actions, the Seville City Council reinforces its commitment to the continuous improvement of urban parks, making them more accessible, sustainable, and adapted to the needs of the population.
