The president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has inaugurated the IES Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’ in the municipality of Mijas, Malaga, a prime example of the Andalusian government’s commitment to public education in Andalusia. This center is spacious, modern, and fully equipped to meet the needs of the municipality in secondary and high school education, with an investment of over 7 million euros, providing the educational community in the Las Lagunas area with infrastructure on par with the best in Andalusia.
Moreno referenced the name of this institute, Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’, a woman, whom he described as «brave, talented, and courageous, who stood up and defended her vocation in a male-dominated world, as was the sports field back then.»
He pointed out that this Secondary Education Institute is the largest educational center of its kind in Andalusia, with ample and suitable facilities for a municipality with a historical deficit of public educational institutions.
In this regard, he explained that it consists of 24 multipurpose classrooms and a total of 720 school places, in addition to the library, gymnasium, workshops, laboratories, sports courts, school garden, play area, and gardens with orange and palm trees. He also emphasized that the collaboration of the City Council has been essential for this achievement to become a reality today.
The Andalusian president and the Minister of Economy, along with members of the center’s management team.
The Andalusian president recalled that since 2019, over 8 million euros have been allocated to nearly twenty construction, expansion, and renovation projects in Mijas, and specified that in this province, 430 projects have been completed since 2019, with an investment exceeding 82 million euros. Additionally, there are 48 ongoing projects in Malaga worth 15 million euros. «In summary, investments and actions that endorse the fact that public education in Andalusia and in Malaga is experiencing a new reality today.»

Moreno visited, among other areas, the sports facilities of the center.
On a different note, Moreno stated that the enrollment process in Andalusia for the 2025-26 academic year is already underway, with the activation of a measure that specifically benefits the working middle class and protects families in need. Starting April 1st, Andalusian families can begin enrolling their 2-year-old children in public and subsidized nursery schools for the next academic year. «Thus, from September, public education in Andalusia will be free from ages 2 to 16.»

The president of the Junta unveiled a commemorative plaque during the visit to the center.
The event was attended by the Minister of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, Carolina España, and the Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata.
