The Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, has presented the offer for the first semester of this year from the Andalusian Network of Public Theaters, the program for the dissemination and promotion of performing arts that reaches a total of 70 Andalusian municipalities – 16 of them in the province of Seville -, providing access to theater, music, dance, and circus performances, and contributing to the development of the Andalusian cultural sector.
«The Andalusian Network of Public Theaters is a fundamental proposal for the promotion and dissemination of theater, dance, circus, and music with an impact on municipalities and performing arts companies,» said Minister Del Pozo, who highlighted that «in the first semester of 2025, there are a total of 312 performances, 201 for the general public and 111 for students.»
According to Patricia del Pozo, this is a «collaborative program that combines the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, municipalities, and companies». The Andalusian Network of Public Theaters is divided into two channels, one for the general public and one for school audiences which, under the name of ‘Abecedaria’, is carried out in collaboration with educational centers.
The budget for this year’s program exceeds 2.1 million euros: 1.1 million provided by the Junta de Andalucía, and the remaining 980,000 euros by the 70 Andalusian municipalities affiliated with the Network. For the general programming, the Junta contributes 50% of the total cost of each activity and the municipalities the other 50%, while in ‘Abecedaria’, the Junta covers two-thirds and the municipalities cover one-third.
The Network in the province of Seville
This edition includes 16 municipalities in the province of Seville affiliated with the Network: Alcalá De Guadaíra, Arahal, Bormujos, Las Cabezas de San Juan, Cantillana, Écija, Gines, Lebrija, Mairena del Alcor, Morón de la Frontera, Osuna, La Rinconada, Salteras, Tomares, Utrera, and Valencina de la Concepción.
Thus, there are already scheduled a hundred performances in the province until next June. These include works by renowned companies such as A la Sombrita, Alba Molina, Atalaya, Chano Domínguez and Antonio Lizana, Compañía Danza Mobile, Da.Te Danza, David Montero/La Suite, Histrión Teatro, La Petita Malumaluga, Lapso Producciones, Las Niñas de Cádiz, Martirio y Raúl Rodríguez, Maui, O Sister!, Titiritrán Teatro, Un Proyecto Corriente, and Vagalume Teatro.
Additionally, in the second semester, municipalities will be able to select and program their performances through a catalog of shows that will soon be expanded after the extension call published in BOJA, where a total of 1097 performance proposals were submitted.
Operation of the Network
The Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, under the Ministry of Culture and Sports, carries out an annual call for municipalities interested in joining the Andalusian Network of Public Theaters. The applications are analyzed by a committee of experts, who evaluate the quality of the performing spaces as well as their trajectory and programming design.
Furthermore, the presentation of cultural mediation projects and the hosting of artistic or technical residencies are taken into account, contributing to strengthening the professional fabric of performing arts and music. After evaluating the applications, and based on the budget availability for each call, the list of municipalities that will be part of each annual cycle is made public, which in 2025 has reached a total of 70.
On the other hand, the shows that are part of the catalog are selected by the Ministry of Culture and the municipalities in two periods of the year, after two plenary semi-annual meetings attended by all stakeholders. Currently, the catalog of shows includes over a thousand proposals of music, theater, dance, and circus, among which are performances recognized nationally and included in the main professional forums and fairs of the sector.
